The assassination of Robert Francis "Bobby" Kennedy, a United States Senator and brother of assassinated President John Fitzgerald "Jack" Kennedy, took place shortly after midnight on June 5, 1968, in Los Angeles, California, during the campaign season for the 1968 presidential election.


After winning the California and South Dakota primary elections for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, Kennedy was fatally shot as he walked through the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel and died in the Good Samaritan Hospital twenty-six hours later. Sirhan Sirhan, a 24-year-old Palestinian/Jordanian immigrant, was convicted of Kennedy's murder and is serving a life sentence for the crime. The shooting was recorded on audio tape by a freelance newspaper reporter, and the aftermath was captured on film.[2]

The perpetrators, Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, a married couple living in the city of Redlands, targeted a San Bernardino County Department of Public Health training event and Christmas party, of about 80 employees, in a rented banquet room. Farook was an American-born U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, who worked as a health department employee. Malik was a Pakistani-born lawful permanent resident of the United States.

RBA and XRBA (extended RBA)


RBA specifies that the record identification field contains the relative byte address of the record to be accessed. A relative byte address is used to access an ESDS, and it can also be used to access a KSDS that is not opened in RLS access mode. All file control commands that refer to an ESDS base, and specify the RIDFLD option, must also specify the RBA option.



An RBA is an unsigned 32 bit number. The use of a 32 bit RBA means that a standard ESDS cannot contain more than 4 GB of data. However, there is a different ESDS that supports 64 bit extended relative byte addresses (XRBAs) and which is therefore not subject to the 4 GB limit. We call this type of ESDS an extended ESDS. From CICS® TS for z/OS®, Version 3.2 onwards, CICS supports 64 bit XRBAs and extended ESDS data sets.

Normally, to access an extended ESDS a program supplies a 64 bit XRBA. You can convert existing programs that use a 32 bit RBA to use a 64 bit XRBA

Giffords' staffers; and a nine-year-old girl, Christina-Taylor Green.[1][2][3][4][5] Giffords was holding the meeting, called "Congress on Your Corner" in the parking lot of a Safeway store when Jared Lee Loughner drew a pistol and shot her in the head before proceeding to fire on other people.[2][3] One additional person was injured in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.[6] News reports identified the target of the attack as Giffords, a Democrat representing Arizona's 8th congressional district.[2] She was shot through the head at point-blank range, and her medical condition was initially described as "critical".[2][3]
Loughner, a 22-year-old Tucson man who was fixated on Giffords, was arrested at the scene.[7] Federal prosecutors filed five charges against him, including the attempted assassination of a member of Congress and the assassination of a federal judge.[4][8][9]

Malthus' most well known work 'An Essay on the Principle of Population' was published in 1798, although he was the author of many pamphlets and other longer tracts including 'An Inquiry into the Nature and Progress of Rent' (1815) and 'Principles of Political Economy' (1820). The main tenets of his argument were radically opposed to current thinking at the time. He argued that increases in population would eventually diminish the ability of the world to feed itself and based this conclusion on the thesis that populations expand in such a way as to overtake the development of sufficient land for crops. Associated with Darwin, whose theory of natural selection was influenced by Malthus' analysis of population growth, Malthus was often misinterpreted, but his views became popular again in the 20th century with the advent of Keynesian economics.

Snow's position can be summed up by an often-repeated part of the essay:
A good many times I have been present at gatherings of people who, by the standards of the traditional culture, are thought highly educated and who have with considerable gusto been expressing their incredulity at the illiteracy of scientists. Once or twice I have been provoked and have asked the company how many of them could describe the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The response was cold: it was also negative. Yet I was asking something which is the scientific equivalent of: Have you read a work of Shakespeare’s?[5]
I now believe that if I had asked an even simpler question — such as, What do you mean by mass, or acceleration, which is the scientific equivalent of saying, Can you read? — not more than one in ten of the highly educated would have felt that I was speaking the same language. So the great edifice of modern physics goes up, and the majority of the cleverest people in the western world have about as much insight into it as their neolithic ancestors would have had.[5]
